Симеон Метафраст: биографија, редакција, теологија

The author offers a study of the hagiographic work of the famous Byzantine redactor of the lives of the saints and, based on the sources as well as contemporary studies, lays out a thorough investigation of the life, the philological methods, and the theology of Symeon Metaphrastes. From this investigation, we get a clear insight into the 10th century Metaphrastic Menologion’s theology of holiness. Ultimately, it outlines a hagiography that does not simply repeat given models and passages, but rather articulates a theology of holiness that leads to a fruitful synthesis, a synthesis which underscores the way in which history and eschatology are intertwined with theology, piety, monastic life, and the Church-state relationship.
