“St. Mardarije of Chicago and Libertyville”, acrylic on canvas, Bishop Maxim, 2022
The red in the felon acts as the fire of Christ in which the saint was clothed, and at the same time it is associated with blood and his illness. The boat forms a tandem with the Gospel and becomes a symbol that indicates the constancy of his journeys. Calm dynamics in the expression of elements that call for their own attention. Lovćen and Libertyville mostly, together with the ship (the last steam & sails ship was the SS Savannah, which sank in 1821 near New York), while Chicago and Moscow are in the quiet background.
